Halifax pumping station (Canada)
Improvement of the existing pumping station facing hydraulic disorders
Client: Degrémont SA - Scale: 1:10
Context and aims of the physical scale model
The Halifax raw water pumping station was experiencing vortex problems on the pump suction side. The aim of this scale model study was to recommend a reliable technical solution for preventing the development of these vortices.
Description of the physical scale model
Once the model had been adjusted, based on the existing configuration, a series of improvement tests were performed:
- Improvement of flow conditions in the chamber and in the vicinity of the pumps;
- Elimination of vortex problems by proposing both anti-vortex systems, and the most adapted modifications of the pumping chamber geometry, etc.
