Experimental opening of the outlet by the Abidjan Port Authorities (1999)
Aim of the physical modelling
The aim of this study was to investigate and define structures to stabilise and ensure the long-term survival of a mouth for the River Comoe at Grand Bassam, on a section of coast subject to considerable longshore drift.
Shoreline changes under the impact of the outlet development
The modelling carried out
A movable bed physical sedimentological model was used to study the stability of the outlet, taking into account the antagonistic effects of littoral drift, which favors the clogging of the outlet, and of the lagoon's emptying and filling currents, which lead to the self-cleaning of the lagoon.
