Rhone river crossing upstream from Lyon (France)
Rail by-pass around Lyon urban area - Bridge over the Rhône river
Client: Réseau Ferré de France - Model scale: 1/80
Background
In the context of the project regarding a rail by-pass around Lyon urban area (CFAL), Réseau Ferré de France (RFF) has commissioned Artelia with a scale model study of the bridge over the river Rhone for the new railway line, located at the end of Miribel Jonage island and close to the town of Nievroz.
Aim of scale model
- Characterisation (qualitative & quantitative) of the hydraulic impact of the structures considered on flood discharges
- Optimisation of structures and of constructional requirements in order to minimise these impacts
Description of the scale model
- Representation of the river Rhone and its flood plain
- Bridges over the river Rhone for the A432 motorway and the HSL, then the CFAL project (viaduct and relief structures)
- Continuous measurement and recording of levels by 22 ultrasound sensors
- Automated regulation of the downstream level by 4 hinged flaps
Stages of the study
- Calibration of instrumentation
- Adjustment of the model
- Tests in the current conditions
- Tests in design conditions
- Tests in optimised design conditions
